Every problem has a solution. Unfortunately, this is the occupational health and safety management philosophy adopted by most organizations. They identify a problem, which is often merely a symptom, and they come up with a one-off solution, thinking that they have resolved the situation. Not so.

Health and safety is risk management and it’s impossible to manage these risks in an effective and lasting way without a health and safety management system. To be successful in the long term, organizations need to stop taking the every-problem-has-a-solution approach and understand that establishing effective OHS management systems is, unconditionally, the solution.

That’s what this book is about. Its goal is to get organizations to give up the action-reaction mentality and guide them toward a systematic approach and way of thinking.
